Week 3 Preview: Dallas Cowboys at Arizona Cardinals

Overall Series: 88 Games

Dallas Cowboys: 55-32-1

Last Matchup: Arizona Won 28-17

One of 4 losses in a year the Cowboys went 12-4 en route to the Dez Bryant no catch incident. Dallas had an early 10-0 lead and gave up 28 unanswered points behind a Brandon Weeden led offense. Demarco and Dez were held in check while Carson Palmer enjoyed a heck of a game with 3 touchdowns passing.

Keys for Arizona:

  • Pressure Dak
  • Mixed coverage
  • No turnovers

Carson Palmer is still hanging on going through several different types of teams during his career. This year he loses the elusive David Johnson. We will see three veterans try to carry the offensive load for the Cardinals, but the biggest threat here is the defense. If the Cardinals can bring the pressure early and confuse the Cowboys offense, we saw that once the run game is stifled, then the Cowboys cannot win airing it out. Also, Palmer is known to make mistakes in the passing game. He will have to make smart passes to keep the ball and give the Cardinals defense good rest so they can continue to pressure.

Keys for Dallas:

  • Establish the run
  • Use the 10-15 yard passing game
  • Pressure Palmer

Last week Dallas had a tough time establishing anything. Arizona is a team that feeds off of it’s defense so I do not expect too much to be different. This week Dallas will have to establish the run game. If they do not get the run game going, we saw how abysmal the offense can become. Also, Dallas will need to get the ball down the field around the 10-15 yard range. The Cowboys have to utilize Dez Bryant’s size, and using this part of the field will be huge. Finally, pressuring Carson Palmer will be big for Dallas. If they can bring the heat, Palmer will make questionable throws. His mobility wasn’t ever great, but with time, it has gotten worse.

My Prediction: Dallas Wins 31-23

Team Record: 1-1

My Record: 1-1
