So the Dallas Cowboys started out 3-0 obliterating opponents on their way to what seemed to be a strong season. Then they lost a close game to the Saints. After this followed a confusing loss to the Packers. But it all came crashing down when the Cowboys dropped the ball against the lowly New York Jets. Fans are outraged, players are confused, and the head coach keeps clapping along. Is the Cowboys season over, or did we fans miss something….

The arguments are plenty when it comes to this team. Dak isn’t good enough, the coach sucks, why did we hire Kellen Moore as the offensive coordinator, etc. But have we taken a logical look at the flip side? So yes, Dak is struggling as of late. He’s thrown 2 touchdowns and 4 interceptions in the past 3 games. All touchdowns were against the Packers. He’s been sacked 5 times and hasn’t cracked 80 as a QBR (Quarterback Rating). Ezekiel Elliott is under-performing as well. Zeke ran for 289 yards his first 3 games. Since then, he’s ran for 202 yards. Let’s put this into perspective with the table below:
As you can see, Elliott is averaging nearly 30 yards less per game, and his yards per carry have gone down approximately by 1.5. This is a huge sign in telling us that his production has dropped off. Now, you will say that hey, Tyron and La’el are hurt. Okay, then give Dak the same pass. Prescott is feeling the heat too and this is affecting the passing game.
Alright, well you’ve given some information on Dak and Zeke, but what about the coaching and the play-calling? Well, the Cowboys haven’t lost these games only based on coaching, but also the play on the field. Against Green Bay they missed two field goals. Against the Jets they took some risk and this led to them playing slightly differently the rest of the game. The Saints stifled the team, and the Cowboys also shot themselves in the foot with some crucial turnovers.
Now the question was, as fans are we missing something? Yes we are. We are missing the fact that the last 3 teams we faced were and are far more better than the Giants, Redskins, and Dolphins. Those 3 teams are building for the future, while the Packers, and Saints are playing for now. The Jets received a nice morale boost when Darnold was able to play. And the Cowboys had some good drives against the Packers and almost pulled the upset. The Saints game they faced a tough defense. But in both games they had a chance. That’s sometimes all you can ask for in the NFL. Give me a chance and hopefully we can pull this sucker out.
There aren’t excuses for penalties and don’t get me wrong, I’m confused as to why Brett Maher is still on the team. But this isn’t the time to panic yet. Especially in the NFC East. Lose to the Eagles, then lose the game after the bye and we have a problem. Split them, and we are still in it.
