Tasteful Tailgate: Cuban Sliders

This delicious Cuban sliders recipe was something we found while looking for something simple. Now the recipe calls for you to bake this but if you are grilling just warm up the buns put everything together to make the sandwich, then just foil them up and put them on the top rack (if you have a two rack grill). If a top rack is not available, you can still put them on the grill, just make sure the sandwiches are made and covered so they come out nice and hot. Also, make sure you bring a pan with you or something as a base so the sandwiches do not fall through or actually cook through too much. The cook time for this including prep is 30 minutes, but if you are grilling (which you should if you are tailgating) then the time could vary. Anyways, let’s get down to the recipe.

  • 24 pack of Hawaiian rolls
  • 1 pack of sliced ham lunch meat (basically deli meat)
  • 1 package of 8 slices of swiss cheese
  • dill pickles

Dijon Spread

  • 2 tablespoons minced garlic
  • 1 stick of melted butter
  • 2 tablespoons dijon mustard

Cooking Instructions:

  • Warm up grill (they have instructions for an oven but we are tailgating here)
  • Grease the baking pan or if you are going to wrap the sliders in foil just make sure it is greased also so the bread doesn’t stick
  • Cut the Hawaiian rolls in half and place the base on the pan or the foil. What we would do is grill the roll on the inside once they are cut in half to make it crispy
  • Next you layer your meat, cheese, and pickles
  • Place the top half of the rolls on the top of the assembled slider.

Dijon Spread

  • Whisk together the melted butter and dijon mustard
  • Add the minced onions and now stir
  • Then with a spoon, spread the dijon spread on the top of the sliders
  • Now cover the sliders and let them cook for 15 minutes
  • Once 15 mins is up, remove the sliders, separate them, and enjoy the deliciousness
