The Dallas Cowboys 2018-2019 schedule recently released and boy does it look interesting. Your favorite football team is facing off against some tough competition. As you do with your friends, family, and loved ones, I’m going to share what I believe the team record will be and why. This will not include the pre-season games. This will only include regular season matchups.
Week 1: @ Carolina Panthers
Well here we go. Not only do we face off against the prolific Cam Newton in week 1, we do it when the weather is fairly nice in Carolina. Not only that, but the Panthers will be at home. Not sure if you have paid much attention but Carolina is usually a tough place to play. Dallas loses this week 1 matchup but not all is lost on the season.
Prediction: Loss (0-1)
Week 2: New York Giants
So the Cowboys first home game will be against the ever popular New York Giants. This is one of 3 destinations for Dez Bryant. If he joins the Giants and plays in this game, expect fireworks for sure. If he doesn’t? Well, expect Odell to try and make the new look Cowboys corners foolish. Not all is lost for Dak and company as they hit on all cylinders in this one. Eli shows his age, Zeke will be a force in this one, and the Cowboys get back to .500.
Prediction: Win (1-1)
Week 3: @ Seattle Seahawks
There will not be a Jimmy Graham, Dez Bryant, or Richard Sherman in this matchup. Although we might get a chance to see Russell Wilson and Russell Wilson lite (Dak Prescott). This will be a fun matchup between two unique defenses, and for the Cowboys they will be away from home. Being on the road in Seattle could be tough for sure but this is a different Cowboys team. Also, it could possibly be the Earl Thomas game against his former team, or an audition for his future team. Either way, expect this to be an interesting affair. Dallas should win this as they are in a better current position roster wise.
Prediction: Win (2-1)
Week 4: Detroit Lions
Matthew Stafford and Dak Prescott get into a duel but the Cowboys ball control offense takes over. Expect this to be the game where they Cowboys young defense either establishes themselves, or fall apart. Stafford is that type of quarterback. Personally, I feel the Cowboys win this and win this easily. The Lions still have more work to do to get on the same level as your boys.
Prediction: Win (3-1)
Week 5: @ Houston Texans
This is going to be an awesome matchup to watch. Watson faces Prescott in an interesting night game. I guess the running theme so far are the quarterback matchups. This one will also be a good test for our secondary. Overall the Cowboys show us that they are good but not consistent. I feel that with Watt coming back into the fold the Texans win this by at least 10.
Prediction: Loss (3-2)
Week 6: Jacksonville Jaguars
So the Jaguars were a very nice surprise last season. Nobody expected them to get to the AFC Championship. I’m not sure which Jaguars will show up to Dallas. I do expect former Cowboy Barry Church to have a few hits ready to dish out. But with a shift in strategy and game planning the Cowboys should win this game. Allen Hurns will also be facing his former team and could provide valuable intel on Blake Bortles.
Prediction: Win (4-2)
Week 7: @ Washington Redskins
Not a game we lose. Easy to state but this could also be a trap game. I expect Witten and Elliott to take over this one along with Beasley. The defense and Tank Lawrence will cause problems for Alex Smith all day. My prediction is a blowout by a wide margin.
Prediction: Win (5-2)
Week 8: BYE
Week 9: Tennessee Titans
An intriguing game for sure. Tennessee will have a new coach, a new starting running back, and who knows what on defense. I still don’t think the Titans will be able to stop the Cowboys rushing game. Dallas will control the ball in this game and show why they have one of the most dominant lines in the NFL.
Prediction: Win (6-2)
Week 10: @ Philadelphia Eagles
By this time we will have both teams in a spot where injuries would have played a role in how each team will look. I believe the Eagles and/or the Cowboys will be missing a few players. The difference in this one will be that Carson Wentz will show that he has developed further as an elite quarterback. Also the Eagle defense will be flying all over the field just like how they used to in the Andy Reid era. I do not expect Dallas to win this at all.
Prediction: Loss (6-3)
Week 11: @ Atlanta Falcons
Well if losing streaks start a certain way then this is the part of the schedule where it happens. Who will forget Dallas making Adrian Clayborn look like Reggie White. Although this game will play out a little different. The Falcons will soar offensively in a shootout and beat Dallas in a big conference matchup. Matt Ryan and Julio will have a field day as will Freeman and/or Coleman.
Prediction: Loss (6-4)
Week 12: Washington Redskins
After two really tough road losses the Cowboys finally get to be home. Albeit, this will be for the regularly scheduled Thanksgiving game. Dallas will get a chance to feast on the lowly Washington Redskins. I think this will be a fun game for Cowboys fans to watch across the nation. Expect Zeke to get himself whichever award is being given out this day. The losing streak will end here but not for long.
Prediction: Win (7-4)
Week 13: New Orleans Saints
How much does Drew Brees have left in the tank? Enough to still show the Cowboys he has something left. Alvin Kamara is a monster that Dallas hasn’t faced and they will finally get a chance to see him in action. Michael Thomas should be held in check but the Saints D and running game will power them through in this one. For a Thursday night game this is going to be elite. The only problem is that the Saints will hand the Cowboys their 3rd loss in 4 games.
Prediction: Loss (7-5)
Week 14: Philadelphia Eagles
The NFC East is very interesting. Sometimes you could say that the division is unpredictable. Well for this season I believe the Cowboys will be swept by one team but beat the others. This is a two horse race for sure and the division winner should make the playoffs. Wentz and company will be facing Dallas in another premier matchup spot on national television. Expect no different as the Eagles show why they are last year’s Super Bowl Champions.
Prediction: Loss (7-6)
Week 15: @ Indianapolis Colts
Well what an up and down season I’ve predicted so far. This game could go either way. If Andrew Luck is playing the Colts win. No Luck no win. I strongly believe Luck is another year away from his shoulder injury and could possibly be done for his career. With that said, Dallas should take this one easily against the Colts.
Prediction: Win (8-6)
Week 16: Tampa Bay Buccaneers
One thing I see is that Dallas should hit .500. The question remains how many games above .500 for the 2018-2019 season. Tampa Bay has a lot of growing up to do and I expect this season to be the same. Winston shows flashes and Evans is remarkable. Expect the expected as Dallas wins this one without any issues to push towards the division title.
Prediction: Win (9-6)
Week 17: New York Giants
Could this be Eli Manning’s last game as a Giant? Possibly. And with that possibility this could also be a trap game. I didn’t schedule on in the whole season because this is what I see happening. The Cowboys will be fighting for a wild card spot as they have already lost the division, and boy will it come down to the last game (as it feels like it does every year for Garrett’s teams). This game will be no different and the Giants will beat the Cowboys spoiling any hopes for a playoff run. Gosh, I hate ELI!
Prediction: Loss (9-7)
