Dallas Sports News Round Up 2/29/16

It’s been a while since we’ve done a quick recap on what is going on in Dallas Sports. This week touch base on a handful of topics going on locally. We will look at the Stars, Mavericks, Cowboys, and Rangers.

Dallas Stars: The Dallas Stars started out the season on fire, and have cooled down as of late. Currently Dallas is second to the Blackhawks in the West, but the team has dropped 5 of the past 6 games. The team has faced some tough matchup’s but that is no excuse for a team that should be contending for a Stanley Cup. All Stars Jamie Benn and Tyler Seguin have played well and continue to lead the team in points. With approximately 19 games left on the schedule, let’s hope the team can gather together and finish strong.

Texas Rangers: One of the biggest stories for the Rangers has been the health of several key players. Last year it was Darvish who hit the DL and this season we already are starting off without Josh Hamilton. The team did sign Ian Desmond to a 1-year $8 million dollar deal. Desmond is coming from the Washington Nationals and will be insurance who could be worth looking at in left field. Darvish has made some progress and it will be interesting to see what he has lost or gained with the time off during recovery. Derek Holland who is in a big year himself. The young pitcher will either wear out his welcome this season, or will be worth the time and effort Texas has put into his development.

Dallas Mavericks: The Mav’s have been mediocre as of late, but are still in the playoff race. Dallas stood pat at the trade deadline, but made one move which was bring in veteran PF David Lee. Of course Lee was brought in after Boston bought out his contract, but you can already see a better front line for the team. Now Parsons, Matthews, and Williams need to show some progress and consistency for this team to reach the next step.

Dallas Cowboys: Your boys in blue have been in about every story you can think of (we usually are). Terrell Owens was back at making some Dallas related comments, Demarco Murray is on the block according to multiple reports (Dallas rumored to be his preferred choice), and Dallas is still wanting to bring in some players from last season. Dez Bryant showed support in Greg Hardy while others have not. Brandon Carr, Morris Claiborne, and Rolando McClain have interesting situations that the team has to deal with. Byron Jones is an exciting piece to watch while Demarcus Lawrence is recovering from what seems to be a significant back injury. Also, Randy Gregory has already found himself in trouble with the league’s substance abuse policy. Tony Romo is leaning towards having a plate implanted to strengthen his collarbone…
