Well what a few weeks it has been for the franchise. Not only were they able to land a top 3 pick (albeit even if it cost them a future first rounder), but they were finally able to land a semi good free agent as well. Now the Mavericks will turn their attention to filling out the rest of the roster, and possibly bring back some of their own free agents.
Currently the team has lost two free agents of their own this offseason. Doug McDermott, Seth Curry, and Nerlens Noel have all found new homes. Dirk (technically, but he’s not leaving), and Ferrell are still free agents. Mejri has agreed to re-sign with the Mavericks.
Dallas is still looking at adding talent and they also have to bring back Dirk in the process. The restricted free agent market is very strong, but the UFA market does have some interesting names. Tyreke Evans and Isaiah Thomas are the two that stick out immediately. After them you have 2 very strong veterans in Brook Lopez and Avery Bradley who could be very experienced and savvy guys. The way the team is constructed, they will need some scoring off the bench. They will also need some 3 point scoring and defense, especially a perimeter defensive player. We still have a lot of time in this carousel to look forward to. Dallas also has the Wesley Matthews expiring contract in play so a move there could come soon.
