The Dallas Cowboys had a very interesting year going 10-6 and winning the NFC East Division for the second time in 3 years. This led to a wildcard berth but then a divisional playoff loss to the Rams ended the season. Several events have occurred since then and the Cowboys seem to be in a very intriguing position as they enter the 2019-2020 NFL season.
The Dallas Cowboys beat the Seattle Seahawks in a thriller during the NFC Wildcard Playoff. Next they lost to the Rams as mentioned above and the 2019 offseason began from there. Moving forward the Cowboys coaching staff made a few changes, notably the replacing of Scott Linehan with Kellen Moore. Moore was officially announced as the Cowboys offensive coordinator in January and joined the rest of the Cowboys staff as they coached in the NFL Pro Bowl.
This was a very interesting month. Dallas engaged in contract talks with some big name players notably Amari Cooper, Demarcus Lawrence, and Dak Prescott. Along with this, the Cowboys didn’t pick up the option on Terrance Williams making him a free agent plus had several other pending free agents to weigh in on. The list of free agents included Marcus Martin, Demarcus Lawrence, Geoff Swaim, Jamize Olawale, Rod Smith, David Irving, Damien Wilson, Tavon Austin, Datone Jones, Caraun Reid, Cameron Fleming, Cole Beasley, and L.P. Ladouceur. Along with this, a man name Jason Witten announced that he would return to playing in the NFL, and would rejoin the Dallas Cowboys.
Jason Witten signed his contract tender, and the Cowboys entered the NFL free agency with several questions left to be answered. The Cowboys lost Cole Beasley, Damien Wilson, and Geoff Swaim. They did keep Tavon Austin, Cameron Fleming, Jamize Olawale, and L.P. Ladouceur. New additions to the team were Randall Cobb, Codey McElroy, Christian Covington, Kerry Hyder Jr., Robert Quinn (via trade), and George Illoka.
The Dallas Cowboys entered April with some big questions in regards to the NFL Draft. They didn’t have a first round pick using it on Amari Cooper. Instead they started in round 2. Before this though they were able to lock in a deal with DE Demarcus Lawrence on a big time $100 million dollar deal. In the draft though Dallas went non-flashy which was perfect. The picks were:
DT – Trysten Hill
OL – Connor McGovern
RB – Tony Pollard
CB – Michael Jackson
DE – Joe Jackson
RB Mike Weber
DE – Jalen Jelks
Also Dallas signed the son of a former Cowboys legend Larry Allen in Larry Allen Jr. The Cowboys 2019 NFL Schedule came out as well. Finally unfortunately the Cowboys family lost Roger Emrich. He was the voice of AT&T and Texas Stadium.
