Currently a November to Remember

No no no, this is not a November to remember for the wins and losses for our favorite Dallas Mavericks. This is more so for the one man who is turning heads around the league. Dennis Smith Jr. has had an amazing month of November and we hope he continues the hot streak.

Just from an eye test you can see that this kid is special. His speed, quickness, vertical, range, etc. all line up with a guy who I love to watch, Damian Lillard. Ironically, both men are the same height and weight from what I can tell.  Below I have a graph that shows a comparison of there measurable’s.

During this month so far, Smith Jr. has increased the number of shot attempts he is shooting per game from 11 to about 17. His shooting percentage is up for not only 2 point shots but also 3 point shots. Also DSJ’s free throw percentage has sky rocketed and this young man has started to come into his own. Dirk is feeling the effects but who can deny that this man has a great opportunity. Below I have a comparison of his numbers from last month to this month.

You can clearly see the uptick in points and rebounds while assists have dropped some. I’m okay with an aggressive top 15 pick rookie on a bad team. It is important to see what he can do during a down year. What I am concerned about is the wall that rookies hit after a few months. Of course 82 games per year is a lot, so this is where we will see if DSJ can get his conditioning to another level. His minutes could go up which might affect his performance too, but man you cannot deny that the Mavericks have a bright future.
